Our Mission

To preserve the deeper purpose of martial arts tradition, promoting a mindset of harmony, inclusion, respect, commitment, perseverance and success.

Every supporter, student, instructor and dojo under our federation share this same commitment, to live a life of harmony. To teach the martial arts using practical applications while preserving tradition, and doing so alongside a mindset of harmony, inclusion, commitment and respect.

Why We Exist

As martial arts have become increasingly commercialized, the discipline, patience, humility, and mutual respect that once defined traditional practice can too easily be replaced by convenience. Martial arts should be more than an after-school activity or a collection of techniques; they are a path through which we cultivate the mind, body, and spirit.

Shinwadō was founded to preserve that deeper purpose.

We provide a shared home for practitioners and schools committed to the belief that martial arts should develop not only skill, but character, self-discipline, and a harmonious spirit. We believe harmony does not require us to think or live alike. Like yin and yang, differences can exist together in balance. To live harmoniously is to accept others as they are, remain grounded in our principles, and meet differences and adversity with wisdom, patience, and respect.

Shinwadō exists to make the benefits of traditional martial arts accessible. We provide small schools with a way to quickly adopt a proven curriculum without sacrificing the traditional practice and philosophy that give martial arts their meaning. Through a shared curriculum, community, and standard of practice, schools can focus on developing practitioners who are capable not only in technique, but in character.

We exist to increase awareness of the benefits of living with a harmonious spirit; to foster growth in mind, body, and spirit; to represent the under-represented; and to serve the under-served.

We believe every person has the right to know how to defend themselves. Yet the highest expression of martial arts is not simply the ability to fight, but the discipline, wisdom, and self-control to know when to act, when to yield, and when peace is the better path.

Shinwadō (“The Harmonious Way”) is a lifelong journey toward balance within ourselves, respect for others, and harmony in the world we share.
