Membership Criteria

The minimum age for our martial arts programs is six years of age. If you have children that are younger than six, then we are happy to refer you to one of our partner schools that works with children as young as two.

Our criteria for enrollment are based on the readiness of the student, not fitness level, lifestyle, how they identify, physical ability or mental ability. We welcome a diverse environment and have experience working with many different humans with various challenges.

Prior to enrolling, we will evaluate each student for their readiness to succeed in our programs. To start, a student must minimally meet the following evaluation criteria.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Students must want to participate and should not be told by their parent(s) or guardian that they “have to do this”.  Our free introductory lessons will help us – and you – to see your readiness.
  • Students must be able to take directions from the instructors and listen attentively. We realize there are situations where active attention may be a challenge, our private lessons are a great place for these students.
  • If you are enrolling in a group session, students must not be distracted by other students and must not be a distraction to other students.

We find that when the child can listen and wants to learn and not play, that’s the perfect age and attitude to start a successful martial arts journey. If we collectively agree your child isn’t ready for our program, we will work with you to place your child in one of our partner schools.

two & three day per week programs

Two Days Per Week

Once you select a curriculum (self-defense or martial arts) and format (private or group) you will decide how often to train. Choose from 2 or 3 days per week, or create a custom program.

If you’re unsure, or are new to martial arts, then start with 2 days per week. If you are highly motivated or have prior martial arts experience, you may be ready for 3 days per week.

If you prefer one day per week, we can make that work too.

Three Days Per week

schools & youth centers

Our School & Youth Center program offers opportunities for elementary, middle and high school students to participate in an after-school program at their school or local youth center.

We deliver hybrid self-defense and traditional martial arts training sessions and bring all necessary equipment to the facility.

This program is offered as an introductory program to allow students to experience martial arts. Our requirements for enrollment are the same for all programs.

Instruction focuses on promoting martial arts in a fun environment, while also teaching students the fundamentals. This program runs 4 weeks and has limited enrollment. Classes are 45-60 minutes in length..

certificate of achievement

When the program is completed, we will have a promotion ceremony at the last class and provide a certificate of achievement to each student, acknowledging them achieving the rank of advanced white belt.

Students can redeem the certificate for a discount on instruction and are eligible to enter our regular program as an advanced white belt.

redeeming your certificate

Your certificate can be redeemed by the student or a family member (yup, parents too!) for discounted instruction.

The certificate can be redeemed at The Traveling Dojo or one of our partner schools.

Hours spent in this introductory program will count towards your next belt if you enroll with The Traveling Dojo.

availability

Due to the nature of our approach, we have limited availability in our programs.

If a student wishes to enroll in The Traveling Dojo but we do not have availability, or the student would prefer a larger group environment, then we will refer the student to a partner school.

We will work with you to find the best place for you!

train at work

Don’t want to sit in traffic after work and wind up training late at night? Do you lose motivation to train after getting home? This program is a great way to manage your time and have fun with your colleagues!

We offer instruction at your place of work and will bring all necessary equipment to your workplace.

We will work with your employer or property management company to ensure that we are all in a safe and legitimate environment to train.

We only support the group format for this program with a minimum of five and a maximum of ten students.

See our Deals for more information on discounts offered for this program!
