Traditional Martial Arts
Our martial arts program provides an engaging, energetic, fun and safe environment for all students, adhering to a structured and disciplined approach. Our practice includes traditional ceremonies and rituals (bowing, formal lineups, reciting our creed, respecting our training environment, etc.).
We maintain small class sizes (up to 10 students) and a high instructor-to-student ratio to ensure each student receives attentive, high-quality instruction, allowing them to stay focused and progress effectively.
The Traveling Dojo Pillars of Practice
Our daily training encompasses our four pillars of practice, which are integrated tightly into our oath.
REPSECT
We respect everyone and act with honor and humility.
COMMIT
We commit ourselves to the way of karate; improving ourselves encompassing physical, mental & spiritual development through discipline & persistent effort.
PERSEVERE
We persevere through all challenges with purpose.
SUCCEED
We will succeed in strength of mind, body and character.
Belt System
Belt promotions are an integral part of our traditional martial arts curriculum, recognizing each student’s growth in both skill and character. The promotion process reflects a student’s progress in proficiency, discipline, and maturity throughout their training. Each evaluation includes assessments of endurance, physical technique, and oral components to ensure a well-rounded understanding of our teachings.
Promotions are by invitation only and are not conducted on a fixed schedule. When the master instructor determines that a student is ready, they will receive an invitation to test; an honor that reflects their preparation and progress. We support each student’s readiness by offering additional training opportunities as needed; however, successful completion of the promotion ultimately depends on the student’s performance.
Upon successful promotion, students are awarded their new belt and an official certificate recognizing their achievement.
Entering Our Program from Another School or Style
We welcome students entering our program from other schools. Students who come from schools that teach Tang Soo Do, Taekwondo or Uchudo, will be accepted into The Traveling Dojo’s program retaining their current belt rank. Students from other styles are also welcome to enter our program, however they may or may not be accepted at their current rank and will be evaluated separately for proper placement. If you are unsure what style you are currently learning, let us know, we will be able to tell you knowing your training background.
Students must demonstrate knowledge of the full Traveling Dojo curriculum for their current rank before they can begin the curriculum for promotion to the next rank.
Students that are members of the Black Belt Club from another school will be accepted into The Traveling Dojo’s Black Belt Club Program, space permitting (additional fees may apply). Enrollment is limited due to our limited class sizes. Ongoing membership in the Black Belt Club is evaluated during the student’s next promotion test.
